  • Free Press reporter Teresa will be conducting an interview at the observatory on Thursday October 21st. Her interview will cover the NVSS school tour in progress, the Pro D day plans for the following day, and the upcoming lunar eclipse on the 27th.

5. New Business (continued)

  • Wayne and Robin have been preparing for the upcoming Pro D day activities to be held on Friday, October 22nd. Response has been high. Planned activities include:
  • SolarMax video
  • Pin Hole Camera
  • Telescope type discussion
  • Construct a simple telescope
  • Demonstration of mirror grinding techniques
  • Lunar impact lab
  • Solar surface granulation study
  • Short tour of the facility
  • Robin and Karen traveled to Tatla Lake to observe first hand the robotic telescope being set up at the local school. Robin’s involvement in this project will be to instruct the local teachers in how to process CCD images.

Advertising and Public Awareness:
Glen has advertised the AGM and Lunar Eclipse dates in the Citizen, Free Press and Prince George This Week newspapers. Maurice will contact CBC Radio regarding the same events.

Telescope Repair Committee:
Circulating fans in place and operational. Loop added to control box. Random slew occurs when an unknown combination of buttons on the control paddle is depressed. The scope requires rebalancing now that the fans have been installed. Recollimation is needed, to acquire additional focus travel for the ST6.

Safety/Liability Committee:
An emergency phone list will be posted at each telephone location. A wrench to shut off the main gas supply will be placed inside the building at the north door.

Status of corporate funding drive:
Greg provided two web site addresses that provide search engines for grant money. Gil will do some digging. Robin will ask how Ron Evans (Tatla Lake Observatory Project) received funding from TELUS. Glen also has some feelers out for TELUS grants.

Gaming Grant Application Committee:
Financial statement for inclusion in the application should be ready by the end of November.

Observing/Tours Committee:
Tours on October 7, 14, 21
Pro D day activities on October 20
Lunar Eclipse Open House on October 27

National Representative Report
John will not be attending the upcoming National Council Meeting on October 30.

5. New Business

  • Publications complaint regarding the late arrival of SkyNews and the Journal was sent to the RASC
  • The west roof drain will be blocked off to prevent ice from forming on the sidewalk.
  • Robin and Karen are traveling to Tatla Lake to check out the remote access telescope being set up there.
  • Christmas pot luck dinner will be held on December 8.
